What's the benefit of a hardshell backpack?

A structured backpack's biggest asset is weight distribution. You'll notice this about hiking backpacks - the rigid frame keeps the weight of your items from sliding to the back corner of the bag and bobbing agains your lower back as you walk. It also distributes the load more evenly between lower back and shoulders.

A hardshell also allows Watson to be waterproof, maintain a professional shape, stand up on it's own, open without the use of zippers, and lock securely.

Is the Watson V.1 backpack suitable for business professionals?

A backpack for the future of work is the vision behind Watson. Backpacks were co-opted from hiking and students when we all started carrying our laptops to work, and why not? It's the most convenient and comfortable way to carry your devices. But backpack and professional don't exactly go hand in hand. Until now. Provided your workplace is not a strict white collar company, Watson is ideal. It's sleek, minimal, and efficient to use. The traditional downsides of rifling through your bag, looking childish or old-school need not apply. It's a briefcase for the future generation.

Is it OK to wear a backpack over a suit?

Historically, wearing a backpack over a suit would result in the straps crushing the shoulder structure that makes a suit look so good. However, with optimal weight distribution, a capacity that's relatively light, and memory foam straps that are soft on fabrics, Watson V.1 treads lightly on your dapper threads. Provided you aren't walking from one end of the city to the other, you're good to go.

What makes Watson V.1 the best work backpack?
  • Laptop sleeve
  • Organized devices, cables, notebooks
  • Stands up on it's own
  • Efficient to get in and out of
  • Mobile charging
  • Professional look and styling
  • Minimal leather straps
  • Designed by a former stylist from the TV series SUITS
Why is Watson so expensive?

Watson backpacks are carefully constructed from the highest quality materials and components in our own Toronto factory. They'd be less expensive if we had them produced overseas, but then we'd lose control over the quality of the product and the quality of the jobs we create.

The base components of a Watson bag are more expensive than a zippered cloth backpack. We believe in buying fewer things but of better quality (that last much longer). Watson is built to look and perform like new for years and deliver a premium everyday experience grounded in meticulous user research and development. It's up to you if this is the type of product you want to be part of your life.

Why is it called Watson?

Watson is the name of two very clever characters. The first, Sherlock Holmes' right hand man. The one who anticipates his every move and helps execute the complex plan. The second, IMB's own AI capable of answering questions naturally and intuitively. Neither of these were the direct inspiration for our company, but combined they shortcut to the perfect idea behind our mission: intuitive, clever tools for the future of work.
